ギャレス・バーンズ
1984年、アメリカ・コロラド州フォートコリンズで生まれ、ペンシルベニア州フィラデルフィアで育ちました。高校卒業後、アメリカ空軍に入隊し、爆弾処理班として中東などに派遣されました。20歳のとき、青森県三沢市の三沢基地に配属され、日本文化に魅了されました。その後、アメリカへの異動を前に退役し、弘前市に移住して英会話教室を開設しました。また、津軽三味線奏者や津軽弁を話すタレントとしても活動し、ABA青森朝日放送の人気番組「夢はここから生放送 ハッピィ」のコーナー「ハッピィ珍道中」では、県内全40市町村を訪れました。さらに、RAB青森放送のテレビ番組「ギャレス!アイ」では、青森県内の焙煎と酵母の世界を紹介しています。2016年秋、クラフトビールの魅力を多くの人に伝えたいとの思いから、弘前市にて「Be Easy Brewing」とタップルーム「ギャレスのアジト」をオープンしました。2020年夏には、青森市にブリューパブ「Aomori Brew Pub」を開設し、クラフトビールの国際品評会で数々の賞を受賞しています。2025年には、ビール醸造者が手軽に高品質な原材料を入手できるようにすることを目的として、醸造原材料を販売する「Hakko Supply」をスタートしました。現在、弘前市で醸造したビールを日本全国47都道府県に出荷しています。
Gareth Burns’ Profile
Born in 1984 in Fort Collins, Colorado, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gareth Burns served in the U.S. Air Force after graduating high school, working as an explosive ordnance disposal technician in the Middle East and other locations. At the age of 20, he was stationed at Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture, where he became captivated by Japanese culture. After leaving the military before being reassigned to the U.S., Gareth moved to Hirosaki City and opened an English conversation school.
In addition to his work as a teacher, Gareth became known as a Tsugaru shamisen player and a local TV personality, speaking Tsugaru dialect and visiting all 40 municipalities in Aomori for the popular ABA program “Yume wa Koko kara Nama Hoso Happy” in a segment called “Happy Chindōchū.” He also hosts the TV show “Gareth! Ai” on RAB Aomori Broadcasting, where he introduces viewers to the fascinating world of roasting and fermentation in Aomori Prefecture.
In the fall of 2016, Gareth opened Be Easy Brewing and its taproom “Gareth’s Ajito” in Hirosaki City withthe goal of sharing the charm of craft beer with as many people as possible. In the summer of 2020, he expanded by opening “Aomori Brew Pub” in Aomori City. Be Easy Brewing has since won numerous awards at international craft beer competitions. In 2025, Gareth launched Hakko Supply, a company focused on providing brewers with easy access to high-quality ingredients.
Today, Be Easy Brewing distributes its beers to all 47 prefectures in Japan.
